Many
times, when arriving to a foreign place, I bought a map trying to overlook
the unknown.
A map – a representation of the world but never a reflection of
it.
A map – both reality and dream. History and future. Space and time.
It´s universal. Image and language in one.
I wanted to create a poetic transparency. Using maps from Venice, a city
who changed very little through history. And I thought the map had an
interesting form with all the islands and its tangled net of streets and
canals.
The image was built up by transparent layers where you can slightly feel
the undercurrent of maps, words, name of places, surfaces and structures.
